Unhappiness on earth cultivates a hunger for heaven. We are not happy here because we are not at home here.
We are not happy here because we are not supposed to be happy here. We are like foreigners and strangers in this world.
Oh, you will have your moments of joy. You will catch glimpses of light. You will know moments or even days of peace.
But they simply do not compare with the happiness that lies ahead . . . . ((Max Lucado)

5. Sunday School Lesson

2 TIMOTHY 3:1-7

WHEN WE SAY A PERSON "HAS GUTS" WE MEAN THAT THEY HAVE COURAGE.*

A "GUT CHECK" IS A SITUATION THAT PUTS US TO THE TEST TO SEE WHETHER WE
HAVE "GUTS" OR COURAGE.*

2 TIMOTHY 3:1-7 TALKS ABOUT THE "LAST DAYS", DO WE HAVE THE COURAGE OF
OUR CONVICTIONS?*

WHAT DO I LOVE? V: 1-4*

*1**. THIS KNOW ALSO, THAT IN THE LAST DAYS PERILOUS TIMES SHALL COME.
2. FOR MEN SHALL BE LOVERS OF THEIR OWN SELVES, COVETOUS, BOASTERS,
PROUD, BLASPHEMERS, DISOBEDIENT TO PARENTS, UNTHANKFUL, UNHOLY,
3. WITHOUT NATURAL AFFECTION, TRUCE BREAKERS, FALSE ACCUSERS,
INCONTINENT, FIERCE, DESPISERS OF THOSE THAT ARE GOOD,
4. TRAITORS, HEADY, HIGH MINDED, LOVERS OF PLEASURES MORE THAN LOVERS OF
GOD;*

*DO I LOVE MYSELF MORE THAN I LOVE GOD?*

*DO I LOVE PLEASURE MORE THAN I LOVE GOD? V: 4*

*HOW DO I LIVE? – V: 5-6*

*5**. HAVING A FORM OF GODLINESS, BUT DENYING THE POWER THEREOF: FROM
SUCH TURN AWAY.
6. FOR OF THIS SORT ARE THEY WHICH CREEP INTO HOUSES, AND LEAD CAPTIVE
SILLY WOMEN LADEN WITH SINS, LED AWAY WITH DIVERS LUSTS,*

*DO I HAVE JUST A FORM OF GODLINESS, WITHOUT ANY REAL POWER TO LIVE A
GODLY LIFE?*

*THAT POWER IS THE RESULT OF BEING YIELDED AND HAVING FAITH. *

*GALATIANS 2:20, ROMANS 6:11-14*

*HOW DO I LEARN? – V: 7*

*7**. EVER LEARNING, AND NEVER ABLE TO COME TO THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE
TRUTH.*

*MANY CHRISTIANS SIT IN CHURCH AND SUNDAY SCHOOL, BUT NEVER LEARN. THEIR
LIVES NEVER CHANGE.*

*OH, THEY MAY HAVE SOME "HEAD KNOWLEDGE" BUT THEY LACK "HEART
KNOWLEDGE". THEY HAVE NOT APPLIED WHAT THEY HAVE LEARNED TO DAILY LIVING.*

Tragedy can make you bitter or better. Which do you choose?

TRUE Christianity is a relationship with Jesus. Go ahead, open up the BOOK OF LIFE and it will
give you EVERYTHING you need!

All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness 2 Timothy 3:16

Look For Me

When you finally make your entrance to that city
Of jasper walls and bright golden avenues
As you behold all its beauty and its splendor
Remember there's just one request I make of you.

Look for me for I will be there too
I realize when you arrive
There'll be so much to view
After you've been there ten thousand years
A million maybe two
Look for me for I will be there too.

As you go down your list of firsts there's no question
You'll want to see your loved ones waiting there for you
And when you feel you've told your story to the last one
Who wants to hear you tell just how you made it through.

Look for me for I will be there too
I realize when you arrive
There'll be so much to view
After you've been there ten thousand years
A million maybe two
Look for me for I will be there too.

After you've been there ten thousand years
A million maybe two
Look for me for I will be there too.

HAVE A BLESSED WEEK!

Catch of the Day

Make someone's day
by John Fischer

Here are some questions to mull over and then hopefully do something about. How are we as Christians making the world a better place for people who aren't Christians to live? Are we improving the lives of those around us? Are we adding to someone's day or taking away from it? Can you honestly say that the world around you is a better place because you are in it? Are you making a contribution in the neighborhood? Are you bringing people together? Did you smile at someone today? Did you notice someone?

Did you ask someone to tell you about their hopes and dreams? Did you ask them about their kids? And did you listen when they told you? Did you try and find out about someone just to find out, not to get somewhere or do anything with the information?

Spring is coming. The weather is going to get warmer. How about organizing a block party with all your neighbors? Or just invite someone over.

Is the P.T.A. asking for help? Does your teacher need volunteers to drive on the field trip? Does the soccer team need a parent manager?

And what about the Chamber of Commerce? Are you a member? Or the library? Or the soup kitchen (no, not the one your church is sponsoring but the one the community set up)?

Got an extra ticket to the ball game? Take the guy across the street instead of your best Christian buddy. What are you doing right now? Can you make someone's day?

Do you know Jesus? Do you want others to know Him too? A good place to begin would be to make someone who doesn't know Jesus happy that they know you.

Catch of the Day

From evangelism to neighborliness
by John Fischer

A couple of our readers made some quotable comments from yesterday's Catch about making people who don't know Jesus yet happy that they know you.

Ray wrote: "Five minutes to show that you recognize someone as a person and an individual can make that person's day. I live in a two-college town, so most are students. One way to notice someone is to ask where they are going to school and if they seem responsive, what their major is. None of this takes a Bible scholar. It only takes a minute."

And then Steven wrote: "Our churches provide lots of teaching on evangelism, which admittedly is important. I do think, however, that we need more teaching on neighborliness. Who is my neighbor and how do I love him?"

It just might be that if we were friendlier neighbors, kinder customers, more gracious hosts, that more people will end up knowing Jesus because of us.

In a fragmented society where not everyone speaks the same language, everyone understands a message of loving service. A cup of cold water offered in the name of Jesus needs no translation. In his letters to the early Christians scattered throughout Asia, the apostle Peter wanted them to have a reputation for making their towns better places in which to live. The point was to silence the critics of the gospel by the contributions Christians were making in their communities.

What if a businessman disliked Christians and then found out that the Little League coach who spent extra time instilling confidence in his son was a Christian? What if a social activist criticized Christians but kept running into them working overtime at the social agencies in town? What if a working mother put down Christians and then found that her children's favorite schoolteacher was one? What if a homosexual liked to bash Christians, and then discovered that one of them visits him regularly now that he has AIDS. What if a CEO tried to put down Christians, and then discovered a respected leader in the Chamber of Commerce is a Christian and noted philanthropist in the community?

Remember, caring for people doesn't take a Bible scholar; it only takes a minute.

Faith and Work: James: 2:14-24

faith and work are evidence of your faith in Christ.
What good is your faith if you don't do anything with it?
Faith should reflect Christ and point people to Christ.
Christ didn't sit and wait, but went where the needs were. (Where are you going this upcoming week? Do those people need the Lord's saving grace where you are going?)

James 2:18: You have saving faith - do something with it.
James 2:19: The devil cannot do any works that glorify God.
James 2:20: Do I need to show you what to do? (Chris set the example a long time ago for us.)
James 2:21: Abraham was saved through grace along, but was made right before God by his works when he sold everything he had.

Stay away from things that take time away from God.
James 2:22: If you have faith - let God see your works.
To be complete, you have to let your faith go to work and go outside your comfort zone.

James 2:23: Abraham trusted God and accepted Him. He became complete and glorified God.

The devil believes what you believe. YOU AND I NEED to glorify God.
James 2:24: It's by the works that completes me and glorifies me.
**Remember that actions speak louder than words."

Be DOERS of the word! Get some extra bible tracts this week to pass out during spring break! Let's get the best news of all out in the hands of others!
Don't make any assumptions - just pass out tracts and leave the rest up to our perfect heavenly Father!

Tell Others About Our Lord and Savior!

In the years I have spent sharing my faith, and talking to fellow Christians about evangelism, I have heard probably every excuse imaginable. Some of the more common excuses are, “I don’t have enough time,” “I witness with my actions,” and “I don’t want to offend anybody.” However, despite all of the excuses that I have heard over the years, none is more common than, “I don’t have the gift of evangelism.” Over the years, I have had numerous people compliment me by saying that the Lord has given me the “gift” of evangelism. When I hear that, I know the person is attempting to give me a well intentioned compliment. But, the problem is that the compliment is almost always followed up with, “The Lord hasn’t given me that gift. So I just pray for the lost.” With that statement we have just jumped from a compliment to an excuse that is attempting to remove our Biblical responsibility to preach the gospel, “in season and out of season.” (see 2 Timothy 4:2) People think that since they don’t have the “gift” they don’t have to share their faith at all.

Imagine you are walking next to a pool, and you suddenly hear screaming and frantic splashing. You look at the pool and notice that a 4-year-old is struggling to keep his head above water. If you don’t do something, this child is going to drown. You begin to sweat. You know that unless you take some sort of immediate action, this young child will die. You run to the edge of the pool, look down at the struggling child, and suddenly you decide, “I don’t have the gift of saving children from drowning in a swimming pool!”

Hopefully, when you read the above scenario, you thought to yourself, “What a horrible thing to do!” Indeed, what a terrible tragedy it would be if somebody neglected to save a drowning child, because they didn’t feel they had the gift of saving drowning children. How would you feel towards such a person? Anger? Sorrow? Sympathy? Indifference? Now, consider the fate of the lost if they walk off into eternity without Jesus Christ. The Bible tells us that they will be in a place torment (Luke 16:23), a lake of fire (Revelation 20:15), brimstone (Revelation 21:8), darkness (Matthew 8:12), and weeping and gnashing of teeth (Matthew 13:41-42). Now, which is worse? Somebody watching a child drown and doing nothing about it, or watching people die and go to hell for eternity while doing nothing about it? Thousands of lost people are drowning in sin and running the risk of going to hell for eternity, while so many Christians sit back and say, “I don’t have the gift of evangelism.” Think about how you felt about the person who wouldn’t save the drowning child. How did you feel towards them? If you are using the excuse that you don’t have the “gift” of evangelism, are you willing to feel the same way about yourself?

Generally, when somebody says that evangelism is a gift, two assumptions are made. The first one is that evangelism is a task that requires a specific set of skills that few people possess. Let’s look at what Paul said were the qualifications of evangelism in 1 Corinthians 2, verses 1-5:

And when I came to you, brethren, I did not come with superiority of speech or of wisdom, proclaiming to you the testimony of God. For I determined to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ, and Him crucified. I was with you in weakness and in fear and in much trembling, and my message and my preaching were not in persuasive words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, so that your faith would not rest on the wisdom of men, but on the power of God.

What did Paul, one of the boldest (if not the boldest) men in the Bible, have to say about his qualifications for evangelism? He said he did not have superiority of speech (verse 1), or wisdom (verse 1 and 2). He said he experienced fear and trembling (verse 3) and that he did not preach in persuasive words (verse 4). But, he preached anyway! Yet, how many of us today do not preach the gospel because we feel we are not smart enough? Or outgoing enough? Or persuasive enough? Those things didn’t stop Paul, don’t let them stop you. In this passage, Paul tells us of only one “gift” that is required for evangelism: you must know the Lord Jesus Christ and be saved (verse 2). So, are you truly saved? Then you meet the Biblical qualifications of evangelism.

The second assumption people make when using this excuse is that prayer makes up for evangelism itself. Christians think that since they don’t have the “gift” of sharing their faith, praying for lost people is all they need to do. Don’t get me wrong, evangelism without prayer is about as effective as a car without gas; but that doesn’t mean prayer can act as a substitute for evangelism. A.W. Tozer said, “Prayer will become effective when we stop using it as a substitute for obedience.” Do you want people to get saved? Then don’t just pray about it. Prove to the Lord you mean your prayers and get out into the world and preach the gospel. In essence, prayer for souls to get saved without actions is the same as telling the Lord, “God, thank you for saving my soul. And I pray that you save others as well. But please don’t use me to do it.” I once heard a man say, “Christians need to spend more time talking to man about God, and less time talking to God about man.” Again, please don’t get me wrong. Prayer is a nonnegotiable when it comes to evangelism. But in addition to prayer, we are commanded to preach the gospel (see Mark 16:15, 2 Timothy 4:2, and 1 John 4:15). Prayer cannot replace our Biblical responsibility of evangelism.

I would like to reference one more passage of scripture before closing this article. Christians often quote Ephesians 4:11 in support of the idea that not all have the gift of sharing the gospel. It says, “And He gave some apostles, and some as prophets, and some as pastors, and some as evangelists.” Ray Comfort rightly points out, “The scriptures here are speaking of the God-given ability of the evangelist to equip the saints for the work of ministry.” The verse is not at all saying that some have the responsibility to share their faith, while others simply do not. On the contrary, 2 Timothy 4:5 says that we should all, “do the work of an evangelist.”

Throughout all of scripture, we are told to preach the gospel. The first thing many men did after getting saved in the New Testament was tell others about Christ (see John 1:39-45). Romans 10:14 rightly points out, “How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without a preacher?” The Bible says that God does not want anyone to perish, but for all to come to repentance (see 2 Peter 3:9). If the Lord doesn’t want any to perish, shouldn’t we have the same mindset? How can we keep the gospel to ourselves, knowing full well that men and women are drowning in their sins and going to hell for eternity every single day? Evangelism is not a gift. We are all commanded to do it in scripture; it is an act of obedience, or disobedience. Will you be obedient to the God who suffered on the cross and saved you?

THE WATCHMAN: EZEKIEL 33:1-11

THE WATCHMAN
EZEKIEL 33:1-11

1. AGAIN THE WORD OF THE LORD CAME UNTO ME, SAYING,
2. SON OF MAN, SPEAK TO THE CHILDREN OF THY PEOPLE, AND SAY UNTO THEM, WHEN I BRING THE SWORD UPON A LAND, IF THE PEOPLE OF THE LAND TAKE A MAN OF THEIR COASTS, AND SET HIM FOR THEIR WATCHMAN:
3. IF WHEN HE SEETH THE SWORD COME UPON THE LAND, HE BLOW THE TRUMPET, AND WARN THE PEOPLE;
4. THEN WHOSOEVER HEARETH THE SOUND OF THE TRUMPET, AND TAKETH NOT WARNING; IF THE SWORD COME, AND TAKE HIM AWAY, HIS BLOOD SHALL BE UPON HIS OWN HEAD.
5. HE HEARD THE SOUND OF THE TRUMPET, AND TOOK NOT WARNING; HIS BLOOD SHALL BE UPON HIM. BUT HE THAT TAKETH WARNING SHALL DELIVER HIS SOUL.
6. BUT IF THE WATCHMAN SEE THE SWORD COME, AND BLOW NOT THE TRUMPET, AND THE PEOPLE BE NOT WARNED; IF THE SWORD COME, AND TAKE ANY PERSON FROM AMONG THEM, HE IS TAKEN AWAY IN HIS INIQUITY; BUT HIS BLOOD WILL I REQUIRE AT THE WATCHMAN'S HAND.
7. SO THOU, O SON OF MAN, I HAVE SET THEE A WATCHMAN UNTO THE HOUSE OF ISRAEL; THEREFORE THOU SHALT HEAR THE WORD AT MY MOUTH, AND WARN THEM FROM ME.
8. WHEN I SAY UNTO THE WICKED, O WICKED MAN, THOU SHALT SURELY DIE; IF THOU DOST NOT SPEAK TO WARN THE WICKED FROM HIS WAY, THAT WICKED MAN SHALL DIE IN HIS INIQUITY; BUT HIS BLOOD WILL I REQUIRE AT THINE HAND.
9. NEVERTHELESS, IF THOU WARN THE WICKED OF HIS WAY TO TURN FROM IT; IF HE DO NOT TURN FROM HIS WAY, HE SHALL DIE IN HIS INIQUITY; BUT THOU HAST DELIVERED THY SOUL.
10. THEREFORE, O THOU SON OF MAN, SPEAK UNTO THE HOUSE OF ISRAEL; THUS YE SPEAK, SAYING, IF OUR TRANSGRESSIONS AND OUR SINS BE UPON US, AND WE PINE AWAY IN THEM, HOW SHOULD WE THEN LIVE?
11. SAY UNTO THEM, AS I LIVE, SAITH THE LORD GOD, I HAVE NO PLEASURE IN THE DEATH OF THE WICKED; BUT THAT THE WICKED TURN FROM HIS WAY AND LIVE: TURN YE, TURN YE FROM YOUR EVIL WAYS; FOR WHY WILL YE DIE, O HOUSE OF ISRAEL?

EXAMPLE OF A WATCHMAN – VSS. 1-6
GOD USED THE EXAMPLE OF A WATCHMAN ASSIGNED TO WATCH FOR THE ENEMY AND GIVE WARNING.
IF HE SOUNDS THE TRUMPET IN WARNING WHEN THE ENEMY COMES, HE IS NOT RESPONSIBLE.
IF HE FAILS TO SOUND THE WARNING, THE WATCHMAN IS RESPONSIBLE.

EXPLANATION TO A WATCHMAN – VSS. 6-9
EZEKIEL WAS CALLED AS A WATCHMAN TO ISRAEL.

GOD’S DESIRE IS THAT MEN TURN FROM WICKEDNESS AND LIVE.

EZEKIEL 33:23-33
28. FOR I WILL LAY THE LAND MOST DESOLATE, AND THE POMP OF HER STRENGTH SHALL CEASE; AND THE MOUNTAINS OF ISRAEL SHALL BE DESOLATE, THAT NONE SHALL PASS THROUGH.
29. THEN SHALL THEY KNOW THAT I AM THE LORD, WHEN I HAVE LAID THE LAND MOST DESOLATE BECAUSE OF ALL THEIR ABOMINATIONS WHICH THEY HAVE COMMITTED.
30. ALSO, THOU SON OF MAN, THE CHILDREN OF THY PEOPLE STILL ARE TALKING AGAINST THEE BY THE WALLS AND IN THE DOORS OF THE HOUSES, AND SPEAK ONE TO ANOTHER, EVERY ONE TO HIS BROTHER, SAYING, COME, I PRAY YOU, AND HEAR WHAT IS THE WORD THAT COMETH FORTH FROM THE LORD.
31. AND THEY COME UNTO THEE AS THE PEOPLE COMETH, AND THEY SIT BEFORE THEE AS MY PEOPLE, AND THEY HEAR THY WORDS, BUT THEY WILL NOT DO THEM: FOR WITH THEIR MOUTH THEY SHEW MUCH LOVE, BUT THEIR HEART GOETH AFTER THEIR COVETOUSNESS.
32. AND, LO, THOU ART UNTO THEM AS A VERY LOVELY SONG OF ONE THAT HATH A PLEASANT VOICE, AND CAN PLAY WELL ON AN INSTRUMENT: FOR THEY HEAR THY WORDS, BUT THEY DO THEM NOT.
33. AND WHEN THIS COMETH TO PASS, (LO, IT WILL COME,) THEN SHALL THEY KNOW THAT A PROPHET HATH BEEN AMONG THEM.
